Java and your Browser
Java is only supported by Netscape versions 2 and higher, and MS Explorer versions 3
and higher on 32 bit operating systems (Windows 95/NT etc.). Java applets will not appear
on Windows 3.1,or a 16 bit browser. Instead you will see a message stating your browser
does not support Java

How do I enable Java and Javascript in my Browser?
        Netscape 4.x
  1. Select Options
  2. Select Network Preferences
  3. Select Languages
  4. Select Enable Java

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x

  1. Select View
  2. Select Options
  3. Select Security
  4. Select Enable Java Programs

Also Click on  :"View",  "Internet Options" and select "Advanced" from the tab menu. Find the Java VM Icon and make sure the box labeled Enable Java JIT compiler option is checked. Restart

America Online V.3.0 for Windows 95 (Keyword "AOL 3.0")
  1. Invoke Browser / WWW (Click on the Globe button)
  2. Select Preferences
  3. Select Security
  4. Select Active Content
  5. Select Enable Java Programs (This is the default setting in some versions of the AOL browser...)
    (Note: Version 3.2 of AOL Browser for Windows 95 will be available the first week of June '97)

MAC/PowerMac Users:

If you cannot see the Java applets on this Web site and you are using the AOL browser for Mac/PowerMac you will need to upgrade to a current version of Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. How is how to enable Java in one of these two browsers:

Netscape Navigator

  1. Select Options
  2. Select Network Preferences
  3. Select Languages
  4. Select Enable Java

Microsoft Internet Explorer

  1. Select View
  2. Select Options
  3. Select Security
  4. Select Enable Java Programs

AOL Mac/Power Mac:

This browser does NOT support Java...you need Netscape or Microsoft if you wish to view Java applications.

For people who use Macintosh, AOL suggests using the AOL Mac software with a 68030 or better, System 7+ o/s and 8 megs of actual RAM.

Note: minimum RAM requirements are based on actual amount of RAM available, not via "ram expanders" like RamDoubler, etc.

How can I get a new browser?     

    Most new browsers have Java enabled by default and you will have a lot of new features for free. All this is provided you have windows 95 or better and plenty of hard drive space.  If you don't have windows 95 or better Java will never work and if you are not going to upgrade your system, you should leave well enough alone.

Your system must meet the following requirements to install Internet explorer (you should check your system and all requirements prior to installing a new browser).   Most browsers are free you can download them if you can wait a few hours for the download to complete or order a hard copy on CD-ROM for free/or a nominal fee.

* 49MB for browser-only installation

* 89MB for typical installation

* 142MB for full installation
